Welcome. I'm glad you found me.

The fact that you're here, I'm going to assume you're recently engaged and looking for a wedding photographer. Well, if so.... CONGRATS!!!!! YAY!!!! This is awesome news. You must be super excited.

So what's it like working with Derrel Ho-Shing Photography, what can you expect? When you bring me on board for your special day, I'll become an extension of your wedding party; it happens every time.

See, I take a social approach to photography. You’re thinking, what does that even mean? Well, it means I’m never perceived as a “vendor” or a stiff outsider. I get in the mix, I mingle, I crack jokes, I get to know you and your guests while provoking, directing and capturing moments. I embed myself in your wedding’s energy. That’s what the photos don’t tell you, it’s an incredible feeling and probably why I stay in this profession, to be honest.

I actually still keep in touch with all of my clients. I even keep in touch with guests from their weddings; a lot of them are friends of mine now and that’s not a coincidence. The key to our success in capturing your special day isn’t just the lighting or the angles; it’s the feeling in the air when we’re shooting. Can you let loose? Can you feel intimate with the camera around? Can your guests be themselves?

I hope you like my work; I really do – of course that’s important. But what I look forward to is the moment we meet, because that’s when you’ll see what my photo portfolio can’t show you.

I love to spend time around people. I form bonds really naturally. I’m outgoing and pride myself on being able to walk into any situation and bring out the best.

“SO MUCH FUN AND HUMOuR ALL DAY LONG. DERREL’S CREATIVITY AND ABILITY TO CAPTURE SPECIAL LITTLE MOMENTS OF THAT DAY IS AMAZING.” – ADAM & NATIA

My photography journey didn’t start with formal training. As a youth I expressed myself through visual arts and music, which thus lead me to photography.

I’m completely self-taught, which meant a lot of time by myself reading books and watching YouTube tutorials. I started shooting in 2009 in my hometown, Toronto, but I couldn’t stay still. I started to test myself – from a technical, photographic, and from a social perspective – by constantly travelling to new places to shoot with new people. I’ve since shot in New York, Florida, Las Vegas, Chicago, Italy, France, Greece, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic and more. In every instance, I learned more about what makes people tick and how to get the best out of unpredictable locations and models.

This is the approach and experience I’ll bring to your special day. Take a look through my site, send me a message and I can learn a bit about you and your big day.

If you'd like to get a feel of what it's like to work with me, check out this Behind the Scenes VLOG I did of a recent destination wedding in Jamaica. You'll get to see exactly what happens down there. CLICK HERE to watch. Hope you enjoy, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

Derrel.
